Kite Crash began as an R&D project—a bold, spicy, and smoky interpretation of amaro with vibrant acidity, round texture, and firm tannins. The original formula, approved in December 2019, features a distinctive mix of botanicals including cardamom, rooibos, damiana, sea buckthorn, cascara, black walnut, elderflower, lemon thyme, chicory, gentian, rhubarb, and linden leaf and flower. These botanicals rested for several weeks in grain spirit before being strained and proofed.
Though ready for release in early 2020, Kite Crash was shelved amid the launch of other Matchbook projects—Ritual Sister, Elsewhere, Meta Rye, and more. The amaro remained quietly in wait for the right moment. That moment has finally arrived. This has an extraordinary, bittersweet profile unlike any other amaro on the market.
