Terra Mädi is a line of still and sparkling wines from Freixenet Mexico, produced at their winery Finca Sala Vivé in Ezequiel Montes, Querétaro. This high-altitude region in Central Mexico is one of the most extreme winegrowing areas in the world, and Terra Mädi captures its vibrant energy and character.

The name brings together two cultures. Terra means “earth” in Catalan, honoring Freixenet’s Spanish origins, while Mädi means “beloved” in Otomí, the indigenous language of the Central Mexico. Combined, Terra Mädi translates to "Beloved Earth," expressing a profound respect for place and a deep connection between Catalan winemaking traditions and Mexican terroir. The label design also draws inspiration from Otomí symbolism. A hummingbird, a revered figure in the culture, is surrounded by motifs inspired by regional embroidery, representing beauty, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

Freixenet has produced traditional method sparkling wines at Finca Sala Vivé for over 30 years. Terra Mädi extends that legacy with a collection that includes both sparkling and still wines, each crafted to express the distinct conditions of their estate vineyards. The vineyards sit at approximately 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) above sea level, placing them among the highest in the world. The elevation results in grapes with thick skins, bright acidity, and intense aromatic development. The region has a semi-arid, semi-desert climate, with winter and spring marking the dry season. Trickle irrigation is used to support vine growth and reduce stress during this time.

The soils are primarily clay mixed with tepetate, a calcareous volcanic hardpan. This layer is fractured during vineyard preparation to allow vine roots to reach depths of three to four meters. These deep roots improve vine strength and nutrient absorption, ultimately contributing to the texture, complexity, and age-worthiness of the wines. The diversity of soil types and microclimates supports a broad range of grape varieties, making Querétaro a rising star in both still and sparkling wine production.
