Villa Tinta is a second-generation family estate rooted in the historic vineyards of Ukraine’s Danube Bessarabia, along the shores of Lake Yalpuh—the country’s largest natural freshwater lake. Founded in 1998 by renowned Ukrainian winemaker Valery Tintulov, the estate stands on the site of the former Count Davydov Château, a once-prominent winery destroyed during the Soviet era. Today, the legacy continues under the stewardship of Tetyana Tintulova and her sons, Kostiantyn and Yuriy.

The estate encompasses over 550 hectares of vineyards, with additional partnerships bringing the total to more than 600 hectares under vine. Here, Villa Tinta cultivates a wide range of European grape varieties alongside indigenous Ukrainian grapes, with particular focus on local standouts such as Sukholimansky White and Odesa Black—varieties that speak directly to the region’s identity.

The terroir is defined by its proximity to Lake Yalpuh and the surrounding river systems, which moderate temperatures and preserve freshness in the grapes. Sandy loam soils, abundant sunshine, and careful vineyard management—including controlled yields and hand harvesting—contribute to wines marked by vibrant acidity, balance, and subtle minerality.

Winemaking is carried out with a combination of tradition and modern precision. The winery is equipped with contemporary French and Italian technology, an advanced bottling line, and a certified laboratory, ensuring quality at every stage from vineyard to bottle.

Despite the ongoing challenges of war, including intermittent shelling and power disruptions, the Tintulov family remains steadfast in their commitment to crafting wines that reflect both place and perseverance. Villa Tinta is a proud member of the Association of Vinegrowers and Winemakers “The Danube Bessarabia” and an active participant in the region’s “The Route of Wine and Taste of Ukrainian Bessarabia,” helping to shape the future of Ukrainian wine on the global stage.

Villa Tinta’s wines are an invitation to explore, to discover, and to experience the warmth, resilience, and distinct character of southern Ukraine in the glass.
