Rooted in the long-standing tradition of bere italiano (the Italian art of drinking), Italy’s culture of aperitivi, amari, vermouths, and herbal liqueurs is experiencing a powerful revival. Once a defining feature of 20th-century daily life, this ritual has found renewed relevance with a new generation in Italy and abroad, drawn to balance, bitterness, and lower-alcohol conviviality. The global embrace of the aperitivi is not simply a trend, but a rediscovery of an enduring Italian lifestyle.

Gotha Spiriti Nobili is a small, artisanal spirits producer based in Bologna, founded by Ergin Allko. A bartender and bar owner by trade, Ergin emigrated from Albania to Italy at the age of 18 to study in Bologna, a city whose culinary and drinking traditions would profoundly shape his path. By the time Gotha launched, Ergin had spent nearly two decades in Italy, and his spirits reflect a natural dialogue between Albanian heritage and Italian sensibility. He founded the project alongside his brother Donald and close collaborators Umberto Menna and Riccardo Francesco de Campagnoli.

Gotha’s first release, Menegiks Gin, set the tone for the entire portfolio: technically precise, aromatically layered, and unmistakably original. Subsequent releases have followed the same philosophy, unified by a defining and unconventional ingredient—purified Adriatic seawater. Used throughout the range, this seawater enhances minerality, texture, and structure while serving as a symbolic bridge between Italy and Albania, the two shores that define Ergin’s personal and professional identity.

“Gotha” is a German term meaning “best in category,” and reflects the producer’s ambitions without pretense. While Italy has seen an explosion of small spirits producers in recent years, Gotha stands apart for its clarity of flavor, exceptional balance, and Ergin’s intuitive mastery of blending. Each spirit is built from individual plant and herb infusions, many grown locally, resulting in bottles that reward both thoughtful mixing and repeated tasting.
