Vassaltis is one of Santorini’s newest wineries, completed in April 2016. Following Greece’s financial crisis, Yannis Valambous returned to the island to revive his family’s vineyards, inherited from his late father. What began as a return home quickly evolved into a larger vision: building a modern, state-of-the-art winery to represent a new generation of Greek winemaking.

Together with oenologists Elias Roussakis and Yannis Papaeconomou, the team is focused on showcasing Santorini’s potential at the highest level. Their work reflects a commitment to precision, ambition, and the belief that the island can produce truly world-class wines.

Reviews

  • Vassaltis 2023 'Alcyone' Assyrtiko, Santorini PDO
    Vinous
    Rating: 92 (12/30/2025)

The barrel-fermented 2023 Santorini Alcyone Cuvee Mythologique was aged in a combination of concrete and plastic tanks for 15 months. Though it is initially a bit subdued on the nose, time in the glass gradually releases stony minerality, lime peel and reserved hints of straw. The 2023 is a classic Alcyone with ample freshness on the streamlined finish.

  • Vassaltis 2023 'Gramina' Assyrtiko, Santorini
    Vinous
    Rating: 93+ (12/30/2025)

Aged for 15 months in stainless steel tanks and then another seven months in bottle ahead of release, the 2023 Santorini Gramina shows well, gradually opening with prominent lemon zest, smoky stone dust, white flowers and hints of sea spray. Laced with verve and tension, the 2023 is underpinned by steely Assyrtiko acidity that cuts through everything like a knife, gliding out with vibrant energy on the long finish. Allow it two more years in bottle to fully come together.
