Martin Alonso and his wife Gloria Plaza Medina founded Viña Ilusión when they bought land located at the Isasa’s hillside which is part of the Cidacos Valley in 1992. Although it is located at a bit of a high altitude, around 600-700 meters, the Cidacos Valley influence and the microclimate of this area allow them to grow Mediterranean plants such as olive and almond trees as well as their vineyards. They adopted organic farming at the onset of their project. Their method is an eclectic one, open to new ideas and borrowing from various agricultural philosphies such as ike Fukuoka’s permaculture methods and Jean Maria Roger and Rudolf Steiner’s biodynamic theories. Through these influences and the knowledge gained from Martin's 22+ years of experience, they have achieved a simple and effective method that improves and regenerates the soil. They farm 20 small plots across 12 acres and have been certified Organic by Ecyssa since they began in 1992.
