Tasting Notes: Rancho Coda Vineyard has become synonymous with distinctive Grüner Veltliner, thanks in large part to Ruth Lewandowski Wines and their singular take on the grape. Winemaker Evan Lewandowski was drawn to Grüner early in his career, captivated by its versatility—from sparkling to sweet—and particularly by its savory potential. With the “Stock Pot” style, he leans into those savory qualities through extended skin fermentation, coaxing out layers of texture, tannin, and complex aromatics. This skin-macerated Grüner Veltliner delivers an almost broth-like character, with evocative notes of white pepper, chicken stock, pea shoots, haricots verts, and a subtle floral lift of iris. A slice of green apple adds brightness to the otherwise umami-rich profile.
Winemaking Notes: The Grüner Veltliner underwent whole cluster skin maceration during fermentation for 7-10 days. Fermentation was spontaneous with no temperature control or aids of any sort. The wine underwent full native malolactic conversion. It matured for 5 months on the lees with one racking prior to blending and bottling. No sulfites were added at any point.
