Winemakers' Notes: "According to an agricultural census document from 1892, Semillon was historically planted at Bedrock Vineyard. One hundred and twenty-nine years later, we got our first full crop off a block planted to Monte Rosso selection Semillon and were absolutely thrilled with the results. The 2021 Cuvée Karatas features 68% Bedrock Semillon blended with 32% Sauvignon Blanc from Judge and Uboldi vineyards.

As usual, this Bordeaux Blanc-style wine was aged in barrels, a portion of which were new, from larger format Sylvain and Taransaud puncheons. None of the lots were put through malolactic fermentation to retain as much brightness and energy as possible. In classic Karatas fashion, this features the stone fruit, citrus and heft of Semillon tempered by the beautiful aromatics and cut of Sauvignon Blanc. This should age but has some opulence that will show nicely if drunk in its youth. The 2021 Cuvée Karatas is another fabulous white from Bedrock. This is the first year that includes Semillion from a Monte Rosso selection planted at Bedrock (68%) with Sauvignon Blanc from Judge and Uboldi (32%). If that sounds a pretty appealing combination, well, it is. Rich layered and light on its feet, the 2021 is dazzling. It's one of the very best whites I have ever tasted from Bedrock. World class all the way.
