Domaine Glinavos was founded in 1978 by Lefteris Glinavos, part of the generation of Greek winemakers who helped move the country’s wine industry away from large-scale bulk production and toward quality-driven, estate-bottled wines. After studying winemaking in Bordeaux, Lefteris returned to his native Epirus with the goal of applying modern European winemaking techniques to the region’s indigenous grapes and traditional styles.

Today, the estate is run by his son, Thomas Glinavos, with 20 hectares of vineyards spread across multiple parcels in and around the high-elevation appellation of Zitsa. Located in northwestern Greece, Epirus has a markedly cooler, wetter climate than much of the country. Cold winters, cool summers, limestone soils, and exposed bedrock produce wines defined by bright acidity, minerality, and moderate alcohol.

Domaine Glinavos works primarily with the indigenous varieties Debina, Vlahiko, and Bekari. Debina is particularly well suited to the cool conditions of Zitsa, producing white wines with freshness, tension, and a distinctive mineral character, while Vlahiko and Bekari form the foundation for the region’s red wines.

The estate’s philosophy remains much the same as it was when Lefteris established the winery: take the local grapes and traditions of Epirus seriously, and give them the same attention to detail afforded to the great varieties and regions of Europe.
