Athanasiou Winery is a family estate rooted in Nemea, one of Greece’s most important and historic wine regions. The Athanasiou family has been farming vines here since 1855, when their great-grandfather planted the family’s first half-hectare of Agiorgitiko. Four generations later, that small vineyard has grown into a modern winery and a broader estate established in the heart of Nemea in 2007.

The family’s approach is firmly rooted in the vineyards and in Nemea’s long winemaking history. With nearly 3,000 years of viticultural tradition in the region, Nemea offers a distinctive combination of elevation, soils, and Mediterranean climate that makes it particularly well suited to Agiorgitiko, Greece’s most versatile native red variety.

Athanasiou focuses on expressing the character of Nemea through native Greek grapes, with Agiorgitiko at the center of the portfolio alongside Assyrtiko. The range spans different styles, from fresh and approachable wines to more structured, age-worthy expressions, while maintaining a clear connection to the region and its indigenous varieties.

The goal is straightforward: combine generations of vineyard experience with modern winemaking to produce distinctive wines that reflect where they come from.
