The Troupis family has been working with plants and vines in Mantinia since the 1970s, originally growing fruit trees, flowers and grapevines at their family nursery. That agricultural background eventually turned into winemaking, with Tasos Troupis and his children establishing the winery in the heart of Mantinia. Today they farm about 16 acres of estate vineyards and work with a small group of local growers.
The vineyards sit around 700 meters in Fteri, on the high, cool plain of Mantinia. The combination of altitude, a continental climate and well drained clay and rocky soils is ideal for Moschofilero, the region’s signature grape. Troupis keeps the focus on freshness and aromatic character, with stainless steel fermentation allowing the variety and the high altitude to do the work.
The winery remains deliberately small and family run, with a focus on Moschofilero from Mantinia and Agiorgitiko sourced from nearby Nemea. There is nothing complicated about the approach. Good farming, high elevation vineyards and clean, precise winemaking are the priority, resulting in wines that are distinctly of the central Peloponnese without trying too hard to be anything else.
