El Bagazo is a family owned tequila project in Mascota, in the western mountains of Jalisco. Mascota is a mountainous region with fertile valleys, abundant water, and a long history of agave distillation, including the traditional spirit raicilla. El Bagazo is the first tequila project established in the town.

Rather than treating bagazo as waste, El Bagazo compresses it into biomass briquettes that are used to cook the agave and as fuel for distillation. The distillery also uses a traditional tahona stone mill, along with stainless steel and copper stills. Fermentation takes place in durable, FDA approved plastic tanks designed to last significantly longer than traditional wooden tanks.

The same thinking extends to the packaging. The bottles are made from 100% recycled glass produced in Jalisco, while the labels incorporate recycled paper and bagazo. The stoppers are made locally from a blend of bagazo and FDA approved plastic, reducing the need to bring materials in from outside the region.

El Bagazo combines traditional tequila making with some simple, thoughtful changes to how the spirit is produced. The goal isn't to reinvent tequila, but to make better use of the agave and the resources already available. That practical approach, along with the character of Mascota and the quality of the tequila, is what makes El Bagazo a natural fit for the Cream portfolio.
