Haus Rothenberg is a new project from Julia and Georg Rumpf built on the historic vineyards of the former Sitzius estate in Langenlonsheim, Nahe. Many of the vines were planted in the 1980s and 1990s and are now entering their prime, producing wines with depth, energy and site expression. The name references both the historic “Gut Rothenberg” estate and the Rothenberg vineyard itself, a classified Grosse Lage site where the cellar is located. Georg oversees the farming and winemaking while Julia leads the identity and direction of the project, making Haus Rothenberg a deeply personal extension of the Rumpf family’s work.
The focus is on riesling, chardonnay, pinot blanc, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc from organically farmed vineyards rooted in shell limestone, clay, loess and gravel soils. Farming is sustainable and low intervention, with fermentation in stainless steel or large neutral oak and extended lees aging for texture and precision. The wines balance freshness, structure and drinkability, showing the clarity and tension that have made the Nahe one of Germany’s most exciting regions today.
