Spanish for “skin and bones,” Pielihueso is a family winery that began in 2017 when father/daughter combo Alejandro and Celina Bartolomé planted 2.5 hectares of vines in Los Chacayes. Agronomist by profession, Alejandro changed his sights to vine growing to cultivate wines that are good for the planet and people. Organic and natural with little intervention is their way—and a rarity in Mendoza.

In 2019, Alejandro and Celina purchased a farm in Los Sauces. Los Chacayes and Los Sauces are both subregions of the Uco Valley located within Tunuyan. The Los Chacayes vineyard is planted to Malbec and Petit Verdot. The 13 hectares in Los Sauces are planted to Malbec and 70-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon with some new varieties on the horizon. All the vines are organically farmed (certification coming) with great care and attention.

The cellar work is minimal. The wines ferment spontaneously with native yeast. Low additions of sulfites are added to preserve the vibrant energy of each wine. The goal is to remove and add as little as possible so that the result is pure fermented grape juice.

Alejandro's other daughter Carmela designs the labels.
