Terroir Notes: Left Foot Charley began experimenting with the Austrian grape Blaufränkisch in 2000 on a single acre vineyard on Old Mission Peninsula. It has since become one of the most widely planted “new” varieties in Northern Michigan. This wine represents four vineyard sites. The balance of clay, silt, sand, loam, fossilized coral and granite is different on each site. This varying terroir brings a depth of flavor potential to each individual wine, and a complexity to the blend.

Aging: 8 months in a variety of used barrels of different sizes as well as stainless steel.

Tasting Notes: On the palate, each phase segues to the next - bright fruit> acid> pepper spice> tannin> slow reverberation of lingering flavor. It was recently recognized by TEXSOM 2026 with their top honor the Judges’ Selection for wine in its varietal category. Michigan is leading the way on Blaufränkisch!
