Winemaking Notes: Work on this seven-hectare vineyard is done by the family. They do multiple leaf pickings and a green harvest. Fruit is 100% destemmed. Fermentation is done with indigenous yeast in stainless steel vats, and the malolactic fermentation takes place in oak. Wine ages for 12 months in barrique (mostly second and third passage). Agostina Pieri Rosso di Montalcino is not fined or filtered before bottling.

About the Estate: All of the estate’s vineyards are Brunello designated, including those used for this Rosso di Montalcino. This domaine that takes great pride in its Rosso di Montalcino, treating it with as much respect as their Brunello. Pieri was the first producer ever to earn Gambero Rosso’s prestigious Tre Bicchieri score for a "mere" Rosso di Montalcino. That wine, the 1995, caused a sensation with its amazing concentration and persistence— it easily outpaced most Brunello wines and set a new benchmark for the appellation.
