Tasting Notes: The Rosso di Montalcino seriously over delivers. Made from declassified Brunello lots after fermentation, it drinks like many top-tier Brunelli and is the wine to enjoy while waiting for their Brunello and Riserva to mature. The palate is supple and wide, with fine tannins, juicy acidity, and a persistent, savory finish. While immediately approachable, bottle age will reveal even more depth.

Winemaking Notes: Fermentation is spontaneous, using only native yeasts, and lasts up to 40 days with no temperature control. The wine ages for 10-12 months in large Slavonian oak casks (30–50hl) and is bottled without filtration.

The Le Potazzine 2023 Rosso di Montalcino shows attractive aromas of dried pomegranate, grenadine and fresh iris root. The bouquet encapsulates the pretty fresh and fruit-forward aromas inherent to Sangiovese. I love the lively and food-friendly personality of this pretty wine that ages in Slavonian oak casks for a brief 10 months. This is one of the better Rossos from this vintage.

The 2023 Rosso di Montalcino is dusty and floral. A remarkably pretty bouquet of wild strawberries, rose petals and gingery spice leads to silky textures and a concentration of violet florals. Blackberry fruit adds a pleasant tartness toward the close. Finishing remarkably fresh with saline minerals and a wild berry twang, the 2023 is a total pleasure to taste. In a word, it's delicious.
