Terroir Notes: Milo is the home of the Bianco Superiore. This wine comes from Contrada Villagrande and amplifies the characteristics of the Etna area: freshness, longevity, elegance. Milo is different from other areas of Etna DOC as it is much more influenced by the Mediterranean. The vines receive a constant breeze every day and all day, which keeps humidity and fears of mildew away. Huge diurnal shifts from cold mountain air naturally lower the alcohol while preserving acidity and elegance. Oak and chestnut groves surround the vineyards, creating a microclimate particularly suitable for vine growth and sustainable viticulture. The family has been formally committed to organic farming practices since 1989, well before it was in vogue.

Aging: 500-liter oak barrels for 12 months and one year in bottle.

Notes: Immediately elegant, but not demanding, very persistent and warm, it offers evolutions and contrasts of flavors that encourage drinking and, for those who know how to wait (the wine will age well for up to 20 years), unique emotions.

The 2019 Etna Bianco Superiore Contrada Villagrande is youthfully coy with a mineral-infused blend of crushed rocks, dusty dried flowers and crushed green apples. This is racy and sleek, with juicy acidity and tart citrus-inflected orchard fruits that give way to a crunchy, nearly salty sensation toward the close. The 2019 tapers off long, structured and full of zesty tension, revealing an herbal thrust and lasting hints of lime through the finish. This gorgeous Etna Bianco may be thrilling to taste today, but it will only get better with further bottle-aging.
