Terroir Notes: San Martín de Valdeiglesias lies in the foothills of the Gredos Mountains, at the northwestern corner of Viños de Madrid. Located at high elevation, with a large diurnal shift and granite/schist/sandy soils, the estate produces Garnacha wines unlike anywhere else in Spain. Viticulture is organic, with a strong biodynamic influence.

Vineyard Notes: The vineyards are worked manually and harvesting is done by hand in small 12kg boxes. The soil is tilled with contributions of manure produced by Bernabeleva's own cows. The only treatments used (when absolutely necessary) are a dust of copper and sulfur. Pruning is done following the lunar cycle.

Winemaking: Camino de Navaherreros is blended from all the estate’s vineyard holdings. The grapes, including some whole bunches, are fermented and macerated for over 30 days. Aged primarily in large wooden upright vats, it is designed as an introduction to the region’s style. With its light color, brilliant aromatics, and vibrant acidity, it shines like few other Garnacha wines from Spain.

    Rating: 90 (5/31/2023)

The 2022 Camino de Navaherreros is pale, light and primary. It was produced with Garnacha and 10% Tempranillo that they picked very early in a very warm summer to keep the alcohol to a moderate 13.5%. It's nicely textured, and even if it's not terribly complex, it's approachable, clean and gives a lot of pleasure.
