Vineyard Notes: The Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) vines are a special at Meinklang. They are not pruned, but instead allowed to grow with complete freedom. They develop their own, undisturbed metabolism and must regulate the fruit yield themselves. The result is an above-average number of grape clusters that ripen with small berries, which actually causes the harvest to be smaller in the end. The small berries in relation to the pulp produce a higher skin to juice ratio, and thus, create a wine with more aroma, extract, and complexity. The vineyard looks quite unkempt, which is why Meinklang has named it Graupert. Graupert is the local dialect for someone looking tousled.
