Vineyard Notes: Grapes are sourced from the Torrazza Vineyard in the town of Borgomasino. The vines are on average 35 years old, trained in Guyot and controlled through pruning, debudding, and green harvesting. Harvest is entirely manual, usually in early to mid-October.

Winemaking Notes: The La Torrazza is made predominantly from Nebbiolo with roughly 30% Barbera and a touch of a local variety known as Neretta. Following total destemming, the wine ferments with indigenous yeast in stainless steel tanks. Cuvaison lasts 15-20 days. Wine is racked off its lees following a spontaneous malolactic fermentation and remains on its fine lees until assemblage prior to bottling. The Ferrando Canavese Rosso is aged for 12-15 months in stainless steel tanks and bottled without fining.

Tasting Notes: This wine is full of wild berries (notably strawberry and raspberry), spice and a touch of warm earthiness. The tannins are delicate and fine, which enables this wine to be consumed with pleasure in its youth.

Pairing Suggestion: Quick Pasta & Chickpeas

The 2019 Rosso Torrazza (Canavese) is a fabulous entry-level offering from Ferrando. Fleshy, deep and super-expressive, the 2019 possesses tremendous nuance and resonance. Wild dark cherry, plum, tobacco, menthol, licorice and spice meld together in a forward, supple wine that will delight fans of this reference-point estate.
