The Story: Long ago, during the 17th century, the O’Neills and O’Reillys were two revolutionary Irish families. They formed a rowing competition to reserve rights to some highly regarded land. The two rowing teams agreed that the first to touch the land, after rowing across the lake, would become ruler of the land. O’Neill’s boat was falling behind so a member of the crew grabbed his own sword, cut off his hand and threw it ashore, winning the title to rule the land. This land still remains in the family. The island fortress on this land can still be visited on Lough Oughter in County Cavan.

Tasting Notes: This young Grenache heavy blend erupts with perfumed aromas of bright raspberry and herbal tea while the Mourvèdre brings a savory note to the nose. The palate is plush and textural with the perfect amount of tannins, acidity, and an upbeat, bright, fruity finish that brings this wine together.

92pts (2018 Vintage) James Suckling 4/15/2020
"This is a very lovely, aromatic red with strawberry, orange-peel and floral character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh, bright finish. Energetic and flavorful. Stone and mineral undertones."

Expressive nose combines dark raspberry, black cherry, menthol, tree bark, black pepper, licorice and dark chocolate. Plush, fruit-driven and smooth; as much savory as sweet, with complicating notes of bitter chocolate, spices and medicinal herbs. A pretty adult wine for the price. The smooth tannins won't get in the way of enjoying this juicy wine right now, but it will probably soften a bit with another year in the bottle. Finishes with good length and no rough edges.

(Editors' Choice) The aromas fascinate in notes of raspberry, thistle, cranberry, blueberry, herbs and coffee. Plump, palate-coating flavors follow. There's a lovely texture and purity to this wine, while it remains light on its feet. Raspberry and blueberry notes linger on the finish.

Blueberries, lavender, plum leaf, lemon zest and stones on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Supple, juicy and fruity. Flavorful finish.

Lots of juicy berry fruits, briary herbs, pepper, and violet notes emerge from the 2019 Sinister Hand, Washington State's take on a terrific Côtes du Rhône. Medium-bodied, balanced, and just straight- up delicious, drink this charming, balanced Syrah blend (there's 18% each of Grenache and Mourvèdre with smaller amounts other varieties) over the coming 4-6 years.
