Terroir Notes: The Viognier fruit for the 2018 vintage was sourced equally from two vineyard sites that have two different soil types. The Cedarville Vineyard is grown on coarse, decomposed granite soils, which yield a textual and floral style of Viognier. The rest comes from the Sumu Kaw Vineyard, located on old volcanic soils, which provides more mid-palate fruit and density.
Winemaking Notes: Viognier grapes were manually harvested from both vineyards. The fruit was whole cluster pressed and co-fermented in tank with native yeast at a natural pace. Only a small amount of SO2 was added at bottling; bottling occurs straight from the tank.
Tasting Notes: Every once in a while, the stars align, the vintage is (nearly) perfect, and the Viognier is flat-out spectacular on its own. Hank saw this immediately as the wine started to ferment. The 2018 vintage has amazing aromatics and the perfect balance of exuberance and subtlety. This is an awesome, delicious white for Fall drinking!
