Winemaking Notes: This 100% Trebbiano Spoletino wine is produced from older vines planted via selection massale. The grapes are harvested by hand. Skin contact maceration occurs before soft pressing. The juice undergoes static clarification. Fermentation happens in 25-hectoliter oak barrels without temperature control. The wine then ages on the lees for 6 months and in bottle for 4 months.

Tasting Notes: The nose is intense and persistent; it gives off a fruity and floral bouquet with hints of almond blossom, tropical fruit, cedar and spice. The dry palate is crisp and mineral with a full acidic structure that is typical of Trebbiano Spoletino. It finishes with an excellent persistence of flavors. Pair wine with quality cold cuts such as prosciutto ham or culatello, terrines and carpaccio. Serve with first course fish dishes, spaghetti carbonara, saffron risotto or with main dishes such as rich fish stews and English-style rare roast beef. It is tasty with aged semi-hard cheeses.

About the Estate: The property extends over an entire 170-hectare portion of land located in the center of the Montefalco DOCG region. The whole terrain is clay and rich in limestone deposits dating from different geological periods: part of it is very deep, other parts very rich in fossils, both giving the wine intense and varied tones. Surrounded by woodlands, the hilly area is an ideal microclimate for vineyards and olive groves. Ten hectares are assigned to the cultivation of olives and 45 hectares to vines. There are 5,600 plants per hectare set high on the slopes, according to the cordon and Guyot growth systems, facing south and west. The estate is farmed organically.

90+pts (2016 Vintage) Wine Advocate 12/292017
"The 2016 Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino Trebium is a delightful wine both in appearance and in substance. It shows a light and luminous impression. The bouquet is beautifully redolent of honey, sweet summer peach, cantaloupe melon and spicy saffron or cumin. In the mouth, it delivers and has a mildly creamy (but lightweight) consistency. Some 15,500 bottles were produced. You get great value with this Umbrian white."

A pure expression of Umbria's distinctive Trebbiano Spoletino, the 2017 Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino Trebium is redolent of orchard fruit and nectarine, with some cut grass and sweet floral notes on the close. The aromas are amplified in this warm vintage, and what you gain in power, you lose in smaller detailing and nuance. This white wine is fermented in oak and does a brief six months in barrel.
