Vineyard Notes: In the province of Teramo, Barrone Cornacchia dominates the fertile valley of the Vibrata. The soil is calcareous and stony, which is excellent for drainage. The moderating breezes from the sea 9.3 miles away allow for perfect ripening. Cornacchia currently owns 32 hectares, and the vines are 20 to 40 years old. The vineyards are certified organic.
Winemaking Notes: The Pecorino macerates on the skins in horizontal tanks for 10 hours. Soft pressing is followed by static decanting. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with pump overs done 3 times a week. The wine matures on its lees for a few months; bâtonnage takes place. The wine ages for 6 months in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: The Barone Cornacchia Pecorino is an inviting Italian white wine with fruit flavors of white peach, pear, melon, and citrus. Overlaying the palate is great minerality and salinity. Fresh and delightful, pair this Pecorino wine with risotto scampi, spaghetti with clams, sole in white wine, and fresh cheeses such as goat cheese.
89pts (2018 Vintage) Vinous 9/12/2019
"Aromas and flavors of ripe orchard fruit and fresh tangerine, complicated by herbs. Juicy and lively, though without much lift to the ripe flavors. Longer than Barone Cornacchia’s 2018 Trebbiano Superiore, but finishes with some alcohol-derived warmth."
