Vineyard Notes: The Thomas Fogarty Chardonnay is produced entirely from estate fruit. The Chardonnay comes from both the Winery Estate (64% Langley Hill, 18% Damiana, 4% Portola Springs, 3% Albutom) and the more southerly property Gist Ranch (11%). The Winery Estate provides the base of the blend and defines it’s bright, cool-climate character – think citrus and mineral elements. The warmer Gist Ranch provides some depth of fruit and weight.

Vintage Notes: 2014 was the second consecutive drought vintage and featured the earliest harvesting in Fogarty's 30+ year history. Early bud-break and flowering combined with relatively warm weather led to rapid development of sugar and flavor in many vineyards. Consequently, Fogarty had tremendous ripeness at low sugars, which produced wines with bright acidity and ample structure.

Tasting Notes: The Estate Chardonnay is all about bright citrus fruit, white flowers and mineral flavors that define the cool, maritime, mountainous site. The 2014 vintage has great concentration, balancing acidity and underlying minerality; this is serious site-driven Chardonnay.

"A blend of all four estate vineyards, the 2015 Chardonnay Estate is a beautiful, classic Chardonnay that’s a smoking value in California Chardonnay. White peach, salty minerality, white flowers and hints of vanilla all flow from this gorgeous, supple, seamless beauty. It has terrific flavor intensity and a great finish."

The 2014 Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains is a gorgeous entry-level offering from Fogarty. Orange jam, honeysuckle, mint and sweet spices flesh out in a succulent, expressive Chardonnay to drink now and over the next few years. The 2014 is pliant, open and absolutely delicious today. The 2014 is mostly Langley Hill and Damiana.

Coming all from estate vineyards and fermented and aged in French oak (it spends six months in tank prior to bottling), the 2014 Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains is a sexy, layered, classic Chardonnay that has lots of buttered apples, white flowers and a touch of white peach in a medium-bodied, forward, ready to go style.
