Nadir Cuneaz is a tiny family-run estate located in Gressan, in Italy's alpine Valle d'Aosta. Founded in 2009, the winery grew from a family farm that had been cultivated by generations of the Cuneaz family, primarily for personal consumption. Today, Nadir farms a collection of small vineyard parcels planted to indigenous and traditional varieties, including vines that are more than a century old.
Nadir is dedicated to preserving the viticultural heritage of Valle d'Aosta while expressing the distinct character of each vineyard site. Farming is carried out with deep respect for the local ecosystem, without herbicides or synthetic pesticides. Treatments are limited to copper and sulfur, and special attention is given to maintaining biodiversity and preserving old vines.
The cellar occupies a modest space within the family home, housing only a handful of small tanks and a few barrels. Winemaking is intentionally minimalist and natural: fermentations occur spontaneously or with a house-made pied de cuve, sulfur additions are kept to an absolute minimum and represent the only additions made during vinification, and the wines are neither fined nor filtered. The goal is simple: to capture the terroir of Valle d'Aosta as faithfully and naturally as possible.
Production is exceptionally small, often amounting to only a few thousand bottles annually. Although some of the wines qualify for the Torrette DOC, Nadir chooses to bottle them under the broader Vallée d'Aoste designation, preferring to focus on site and authenticity rather than appellation status. The resulting wines are vibrant, honest expressions of their mountain origins, crafted with a profound respect for tradition, place, and family heritage.
