Wine Terroirs: Domaine Bruyère-Houillon (Jura)

Renaud Bruyère and Adeline Houillon started their small domaine in 2011 and have since developed a cult following for their natural Jura wines.

Renaud and Adeline have learned from some of Jura’s leading estates. Adeline Houillon is Emmanuel Houillon’s sister. She joined her brother at Maison Pierre Overnoy when he took over after Overnoy retired. Renaud also worked at Overnoy from 2004 to 2007. Fun Fact: Renaud and Adeline live literally next door to Houillon-Overnoy in Pupillin. Then, Renaud joined Stéphane Tissot for about 7 years from 2007 to 2015, continuing to work there until Bruyère & Houillon grew sustainable.

Today, they own 4 to 4.5 hectares of low-yielding vines. All the vines are farmed biodynamically without certification. Each plot is vinified separately to highlight the nuances of each specific terroir. The wines are natural from vine to bottle. There is no intervention in the winery, which is located right under their house. They do not stir or rack, just topping up. They do not filter, fine, or add anything. Production is small and highly sought after.
