Vineyard: In 1858 Emil Dresel brought the first Sylvaner cuttings to America and planted them on what is now the Scribe Estate in Sonoma, CA. In homage to Emil, they planted one acre of Sylvaner in 2007 on the southwest-facing slope of Arrowhead Mountain. In 2016 they expanded their plantings, bringing their total planted area to three acres. Their sustainably farmed Sylvaner vineyard is composed of both volcanic tuff and Huichica loam soil.

Vintage: A warm winter with below average rainfall and a cool start to spring kept the vines dormant late into March. Spring remained cool and brought moderate amounts of rain all the way to Memorial Day, keeping shoot growth fairly slow until early June. Mild summer weather contributed to slow fruit development until warmer August temperatures prevailed, pushing grapes to maturity quickly. Harvest began on August 9th with favorable, temperate weather throughout the picking season.

Cellar: The grapes were manually harvested between August 19th and September 10th from three blocks of Sylvaner on the property. After pressing, the juice settled for 24 hours and was racked off the gross lees. The wine fermented cold in a combination of stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs for three weeks without undergoing malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 5 months in concrete and stainless steel tanks prior to bottling.
