Vineyard Notes: Modales farms their vineyards exclusively using organic techniques (with conversion to biodynamics in 2023). Absolutely no synthetic pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or fertilizers were utilized at any point in the growing season. The fruit comes from two different vineyards, La Gracia which is the vineyard at the winery and Mulln-Heim vineyards in Berrien County.

Winemaking Notes: The Modales Estate Pinot Blanc is reminiscent of Alsatian Pinot Blanc. It is fuller, rounder and riper than their Devil's Dive from Old Mission Peninsula. The grapes are allowed to ripen fully. The fruit is harvested by and whole cluster pressed to prevent too much tannin from being extracted from the skins. The juice is cold settled and then transferred to neutral French oak puncheons (500L barrels) to ferment with native yeast that come from the vineyards. The Mulln-Heim portion completed malolactic fermentation, which lends a softness and creaminess to the wine. The wine was aged without any additions of sulfites on its full fermentation lees with periodic lees stirring for 7 months before bottling. It was gently cross flow filtered and packaged under screwcap to preserve freshness. This bottle should age well but is ready to drink now.
