Left Foot Charley began experimenting with the Austrian grape Blaufränkisch in 2000 on a single acre vineyard on Old Mission Peninsula. The grape has proven to be a perfect fit for Northern Michigan's climate, so LFC has planted more sites around Old Mission and Benzie County to expand their Blaufränkisch program.
This wine is from two newer Old Mission vineyards (Hawk Ridge and Swanson), and only required eight months in barrels to come of age. The tannins are mellow. The dark berry and black peppercorn notes traditionally found in Blaufränkisch show off in the glass. This wine has deep potential that will be revealed over time in the bottle.
