Winemakers' Notes: "Well who would have guessed it, we make Sauvignon Blanc now! We always agreed that we’d only be temped to produce the variety if we could get our hands on Grist’s grapes, and finally Woody Hambrecht relented. We can be quite exhausting when we put our minds to it." - Sara & Jen

Vineyard Notes: Grist Vineyard is located at the top of Bradford Mountain, the tallest crest of the coastal range along the border of Dry Creek Valley just west of Healdsburg in Sonoma County. It is located 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in between is nothing but forested hills where countless mountain lions, wild pigs and deer roam. The vineyard got its name from the old Grist Mill on the property. It has been certified organic since 2003. The head-pruned vines sit in iron-rich, red volcanic soils that stress the vines into low yields and concentrated wines.

Tasting Notes: Because the Little Trouble Sauvignon Blanc is 100% musqué clone, the aromatics are turned up to 11. While the bright, citrus lemonhead and key lime components can be expected from a tart variety on a tart site, it’s the hint of herbal Chartreuse that is quite special. Some extra time in neutral barrel also aided in building a velvety soft mouthfeel despite quite a bit of pucker.

Winemaking Notes: Whole clusters were direct pressed upon arrival at winery. The grapes fermented in stainless steel until dry, then were racked into a combination of stainless steel drums and neutral barrels. Both primary and malolactic fermentation occurred spontaneously with native yeasts. Little Trouble Sauvignon Blanc was bottled unfined, unfiltered and with a minimal addition of sulfites.
