Vineyard Notes: The Carignane is from Venturi Vineyard, Mendocino County. Venturi Vineyard is located just north of Ukiah, in the Calpella Valley, on predominantly Pinole gravelly loam soils. These highly regarded soils contain a mixture of sandstone, shale and quartz formed from alluvial flows. Larry Venturi is a 3rd generation farmer tending to vines planted on his family's historic site in Calpella.

The Zinfandel is from Hawkeye Ranch, Redwood Valley AVA and the Muscat is from Barra Vineyard, Redwood Valley AVA. Redwood Valley is near Ukiah in Mendocino County and has similar gravelly-loam soils. However, this valley rests at a higher elevation and nearer the mountains, making it a cooler climate than Ukiah. Peter Johnson and his family have been farming grapes and pears in Mendocino County for 4 generations and Hawkeye Ranch is one his most iconic vineyard sites. The Barra family has set the standard for organic farming in Redwood Valley since the ranch’s inception in the 1950’s.

Winemaking Notes: Whole clusters were pressed directly. The juice was allowed to settle overnight and decanted off the grape solids. Each variety fermented separately. No sulfites were added prior to the indigenous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The Muscat was destemmed and macerated on the skins for five days. The final blend was put together in January after 5 months of aging on the lees. No fining or filtration has taken place and the blend has a total of 18ppm SO2.

Tasting Notes: Freshness defines this dry style rosé, while the full malolactic fermentation balances this freshness with an unctuous mouthfeel and length. The Carignane brings a savory and structured foundation to the wine. The Zinfandel contributes lightness, midpalate and loads of stone fruit. And finally, the Muscat elevates the aromas and palate with its aromatic character.
