Winemaking Notes: The fruit for Les Hauts de Sainte-Marie Rouge comes from a selection of Chateau Sainte-Marie's best vineyards. Grapes undergo maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast over 3-5 weeks in stainless steel tanks for a soft extraction of the tannins. The wine ages in French oak barrels for 12 months.

Tasting Notes: In the glass, this wine has a bright black cherry color. The soils of the Entre-Deux-Mers give this wine its character, its tannins and its aromas of pleasantly ripe red fruits. The wine has an aging potential of 2 to 5 years.

Vintage Notes by Vinous 2/17/2022: "Omne trium perfectum, Latin for “good things come in threes”: Star Wars (the original trilogy, of course), Bacon’s triptychs, The Ronettes, Guigal’s La La’s, French hens, little pigs, wise men and dimensions. The Bordelais will point to another: the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages. In the future, wine lovers will compare this triumvirate and debate which takes gold, silver and bronze (unless you are a Bordeaux winemaker, in which case they will all receive gold). Though points can be compared and conclusions drawn, it is too early to predict what pinnacles these vintages will ultimately reach. When tasting the barrel samples, my gut feeling was that 2019 edged out 2018."
