Terroir Notes: Located in Castelcerino, Filippi sits at the highest point in Soave. The hills reach up to 400 meters (1,300 feet). It is a secluded spot with around 40 acres of vineyards surrounded by dense woodland. Filippi believes in biodiversity and farms his land organically and biodynamically. Castelcerino sees a considerable swing between day and night temperatures, which helps concentrate flavors and fashion fresh and mineral wines.
Vineyard Notes: Vigne della Brà is one of Filippi's prized crus. The vines were planted in the 1950s and are between 60-70 years old.
Winemaking Notes: Garganega grapes are harvested by hand in small crates and gently pressed. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeast (pied de cuve) in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation happens naturally. The wine ages 14 months on fine lees with infrequent lees stirring. The estate’s cellars are perfectly insulated by centuries-old stone walls, and natural temperature fluctuations are the norm during aging. The wine is clarified naturally via cold settling. SO2 additions are extremely minimal.
Tasting Notes: Vigne della Brà shows enticing aromas that are similar to the Castelcerino but slightly more refined and mineral-driven on the palate. Pair this wine with all kinds of seafood.
91 points (2020 Vintage) Vinous 4/2022
"The 2020 Soave Vigne della Brà is delicately floral and lifted in the glass, as nuances of peach skins, green apple, zests of lime and smoke form its bouquet. Its silky textures usher in ripe orchard fruits and hints of sour melon across a core of brisk acids and flinty minerals. This leaves the palate nicely refreshed and crisp, as subtle inner florals linger on. The 2020 is really impressive with a nose that reminds me quite a bit of a fine German Riesling kabinett. The Vigne della Brà speaks in whispers, but it has a lot to say."
