About: Our Talbott Pinot Noir, Logan, is a lush, fruit-driven expression of the Talbott house style, while still embodying the complexity that has become one of the hallmarks of our acclaimed Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. It is named after Robb Talbott’s son.

Winemaking Notes: Destemmed and placed into open-top fermentors. Punched down twice daily for up to 14 days. Pressed off to 20% new French oak barrels for 10 months of aging. Bottle aged an additional three months.

Vineyard Information: The 2009 Talbott Pinot Noir, Logan was made using 100% estate-grown grapes from our Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Located 13 miles south of Monterey Bay, this 565-acre hillside vineyard features numerous different vineyard blocks highlighting various soil types, vine ages and clonal selections. The 2009 Logan Pinot Noir is crafted around a core of old-vine Martini clone grapes. It also includes 20% Dijon clone fruit from relatively more youthful plantings. Vine ages range from 10-30 years old, with average yields of 2.75 tons per acre.

Tasting Notes: The product of a standout growing season in the Santa Lucia Highlands, our 2009 Logan Pinot Noir shows beautiful aromas and flavors of cherry, blueberry and cranberry, supported by subtle oak-inspired vanilla notes. On the palate, ripe, jammy red-fruit layers lead to a long, satisfying finish. Crafted for more near-term enjoyment, we recommend drinking this wine from now through 2012.

Rating: 89

Bright violet color. Pungent scents of black raspberry, smoky minerals, flowers and cracked pepper. Displays brighter red fruits on the palate, with fine-grained tannins adding gentle grip. Shows a smoky quality on the back end, which displays good finishing lift and spicy cut
