Vineyard Notes: The grapes are sourced from estate vineyards in Bastonaca, Vittoria. The average vine age is 25 years. Harvest is manual.

Vinification Notes: Spontaneous fermentation on the skins occurs with indigenous yeast for 10-15 days in terracotta amphorae. Pithos Rosso matures for six months in amphorae followed by 3 months in concrete tanks. The wine rests in bottle before release.

"Immediately open and generous from the start, the 2017 Vittoria Pithos Rosso (60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Frappato) does not need much coaxing before it releases its pretty aromas of wild berry, rose hip, pressed violet and moist earth. This vintage is contained, considering the heat and dryness of the growing season with a lovely sense of elegance and deep inner poise. That pretty floral signature is especially defining in this vintage. It's almost as if the warm year has produced even greater elegance and finer lines. It's counterintuitive for sure, but the results are there. This is a real treat. Serve it alongside some chopped fried eggplant, salt and rosemary."

    The COS 2016 Pithos Rosso is bright and luminous with a very buoyant and direct delivery of aromas. It feels like there could be a vague spot of volatile acidity, but this serves to prop up (in Italian: "dare spalla") the careful intensity of this fragile and elegant bouquet. This wine is fermented in clay amphorae. This vintage results in a lean and elegantly streamlined mouthfeel.
