Winemaking Notes: The first selection of grapes are manually harvested and placed on wooden plateaux to dry for 2-3 months over the winter months. Then, the grapes are destemmed, pressed, and vinified with delestage (racking) for 15 days in stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation occurs. The wine matures for 2 years in 30% barrique and 70% tonneaux. It is transferred to large, 20-hectare Allier oak casks for further aging. The Amarone is bottled and matures for one year before release.

Tasting Notes: Intense and complex aromas pop from the glass: cherry, plum, licorice, and cocoa. The smooth palate shows power as well as elegance. It is not the typical dark and drying Amarone. It has freshness thanks to the altitude of the vineyard and the high chalk composition in the marl soil. Pair the Prà Amarone with meat, especially if flavored with spices and aromatic herbs. The wine also works well with mature cheese, particularly Parmigiano Reggiano.

About the Label: The Italian Tiro Pesante Rapido horse on the label symbolizes the combination of power and elegance that characterizes this wine.

91pts (2011 Vintage) Wine Spectator 5/31/2018
"Pretty notes of herbs de Provence and dried tea rose lace the crushed mulberry, tar-tinged smoke and singed orange peel flavors in this bright, rich red. Silky and savory on the finish. Drink now through 2026."

    Rating: 92 (7/31/2018)

An elegant, medium-bodied Amarone, with light, taut tannins structuring the finely woven flavors of dried cherry, tobacco and tar-tinged smoke, revealing a rich hint of black licorice. Not a powerhouse, but shows good focus and range. Drink now through 2025.
