Terroir: Travignoli is amidst the hills of Pelago in the Chianti Rufina DOCG. The soil composition of this area consists of marl and calcareous clay as typically found in the Arno Valley east of Florence. The vineyards are between 200 and 350 meters above sea level.
Vinification: The grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (26/28°C) for 10 days. After racking, a portion of grapes that were dried on bamboo sticks ( view image ) are added to the stainless steel tanks. This is an old fermentation method that is done to add structure to the wine. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is put into oak barrels to mature for 9 months. 2016 is the first Governo vintage.
Tasting Notes: This wine is pleasant and persistent with flavors of ripe red fruit hugged by wood, touches of spice and vanilla. A savory side to the wine appears as it opens. Tannins coat the palate, creating a long and excellent finish. Pair Governo Chianti Rufina with savory dishes and grilled meat.
