Vineyard Notes: Grapes for the Zorzal Terroir Unico Malbec are sourced from the Luconi Vineyard in the Gualtallary region of the Tupungato Valley. The vineyard is located at 4,264 feet above sea level and was planted in 2007. It is comprised of sand, chalk and stones.

Winemaking Notes: Grapes are manually harvested a little earlier than most in Mendoza to retain freshness and acidity. The Malbec goes through malolactic fermentation and is aged in concrete tanks. Only indigenous yeast are used.

Tasting Notes: The wine predominantly shows notes of coffee, blueberry, and chocolate with secondary notes of licorice, black cherry, cinnamon, baking spices, and sage. The complexity of the wine extends into the palate; it is big and bold with juicy tannins and light acidity. The wine finishes extremely strong with flavors of plum, cassis, and doughnut cake.

    Rating: 89 (6/29/2018)

The 2017 Terroir Único Malbec was produced with grapes from Gualtallary that fermented in concrete eggs vats with indigenous yeasts. There are ripe aromas with varietal characteristics—violets and cherries—and the proverbial round, sweet and glossy tannins of the grape. It's juicy, fruit-driven and soft, very approachable.

Youthfully brooding aromas of blackberry, blueberry, menthol, licorice and minerals. Saline, very fine-grained and light on its feet, with strong smoky mineral energy enlivening the black and blue fruit flavors. Finishes saline and long, with dusty but essentially suave tannins. A serious Malbec for the price, but with enough sweetness to give it early appeal.
