This cuvée is a tribute to Aurélien Laherte's ancestors and to the grape variety Pinot Meunier.
Dosage: 2 to 4 g/L
Vinification: Aurèlien uses the traditional wooden Coquard presses. Fermentation occurs with native yeast in barrels from Burgundy. Aurèlien buys barrels from Benjamin Leroux and the Liger-Belair family (of la Romanée fame). The wine matures for 6 months with regular stirring of the lees. It does not undergo malolactic fermentation.
Fruit Source: The selected Pinot Meunier plots for this wine were planted by the Laherte family between 1947 and 1953 in the villages of Chavot and Mancy within the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay subregion. Some have been planted on French rootstock, others are the result of old massal selection. Les Vigne d'Autrefois is 100% Pinot Meunier. However, there are a few Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Fromenteau vine stocks in the parcels.
94pts (2014 Vintage) Vinous 11/30/2018
"The 2014 Extra Brut Vignes d’Autrefois, 100% Meunier, is powerful and radiant on the palate, with tremendous depth and exceptional overall balance. Mirabelle, kirsch, dried herbs, dried pear and spice notes are front and center. Ethereal, light on its feet and also quite exotic, the 2014 is superb. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years. This is a compelling expression of Meunier. Dosage is 2-4 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2018."
