Bodegas Enguera Information Sheet
Country of Origin: Spain
Location: Valencia
People: Pedro Perez & Diego Fernandez, Owners | Diego Fernandez Pons & Jose Vicente, Winemakers
Supplier: www.oleimports.com

Bodegas Enguera was founded in 1999 by Pedro Perez Pardo in inland Valencia (region). They currently own 445 acres of vines, primarily Monastrell, Tempranillo and Merlot. They grow Caberent Sauvignon, Syrah and smaller quantities of a variety of white grapes. The town of Enguera (Zone 8) is part of the southern sub zone of the Valencia DO, 35 miles inland, south and west of the Mediterranean city of Valencia. The vineyards are at 2,037ft altitude.

The mean temperature between April and October is 60.8F which is low for Mediterranean climate. Rainfall during the growing season is 9.8 inches, while yearly rainfall totals are 23 inches. These cooler temperatures, cooler than one would expect for a Mediterranean climate, have a positive effect on the vines.

Bodegas Enguera 2007 Monestrell 'Paradigma'
Rating: 91

Medium red. Seductively perfumed aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, potpourri and musky underbrush; smells like a wine from Morey-Saint-Denis. Silky in texture, with sweet red berry and candied floral flavors, zesty minerality and slow-building Asian spice character. Strikingly pure and graceful, especially at this price, with nearly invisible tannins and excellent finishing clarity, sweetness and minerally cut.

Bodegas Enguera 2008 Pelta (Tempranillo/Monastrell)
Rating: 88

The 2008 Pelta is 80% Tempranillo and 20% Monastrell raised in stainless steel. It exhibits a fragrant nose of underbrush, blackberry, and blueberry pie. Surprisingly rich and deep for a wine of this price, it should drink well for another three years.
