The del Villar brothers founded Bodega Hermanos del Villar in 1995, with 247 acres of vines in the town of Rueda. Their most widely planted grape varieties are: for white - Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, Viura (also known as Macabeo) and for red - Tempranillo.

What makes Hermanos del Villar wines unique? The innovative and briliant Pablo del Villar's tireless efforts to make the BEST wine possible, through innovative vinification techniques such as battonage in stainless steel tanks of 5000 lit. Unique soil profile of these terroir driven wines. Fermented with the natural occuring yeasts from their own grapes. Nighttime harvesting maintains freshness while minimizing oxidation. Vines are over 30 years old, producing lower yields, 5 to 10 clusters per vine.

Hermanos del Villar 2009 'Ipsum,' Rueda
Rating: 87

The 2009 Ipsun Verdejo (60%)-Viura (40%) delivers fragrant aromas of baking spices, spring flowers, and melon. On the palate it has plenty of flavor, excellent concentration, and a lively finish. Drink it over the next 12-18 months. Hermanos del Villars' two white offerings from Rueda are excellent values.

Hermanos del Villar 2009 Verdejo 'Oro de Castilla'
Rating: 88

The 2009 Oro de Castilla is 100% Verdejo with arresting aromas of mineral, baking spices, honeysuckle, and tropical notes. Concentrated, vibrant, and lengthy, it will provide pleasure over the next 12-18 months. Hermanos del Villars' two white offerings from Rueda are excellent values.

Hermanos del Villar 2008 'Ipsum,' Rueda
Rating: 87

Pale green-straw color. Lime pith, white flowers, herbs and salty minerals on the nose. A touch dry-edged, with sappy citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a strong herbal undertone. The finish repeats the citrus note and leaves strong herbal and mineral notes behind. For the price, this is pretty serious.

Hermanos del Villar 2007 Oro de Castilla Verdejo
Rating: 90

Pale gold. Vibrant, mineral-driven aromas of lemon, grapefruit and quince, with subtle anise and leesy notes adding depth. A precise, vibrant midweight, offering refreshingly bitter citrus and pear skin flavors and bracing minerality. This is surprisingly deep for such a nervy wine, and would be great with richer shellfish dishes. (Ole Imports, New Rochelle, NY)

Hermanos del Villar 2007 Oro de Castilla Verdejo
Rating: 88

The 2007 Oro de Castilla is 100% Verdejo aged in stainless steel. Medium straw-colored, citrus aromas dominate with pit fruits in the background. On the palate it has excellent weight with a viscous, creamy texture, persistent flavors, and a lengthy finish. It will provide pleasure over the next two years.
